Vezelay St. Madeleine - nave
As as Autun, the nave elevation consists of a grand arcade surmounted by a cleresotry. The pilasters of Autun are replaced here by bundles of columns. The nave of Vezelay is famous for the alternating light and dark stones of its arches. This striking detail serves more than a merely decorative function: it underscores the modules used in the construction of the building. The choir, unlike the nave, has a triforium gallery, and is covered by a graceful oven vault. [<<MENU PAGE] [<NARTHEX] [TRANSEPT>>]
