Vezelay St. Madeleine - narthex

The narthex, consecrated in 1132 by Pope Innocent II, was built later than the nave. Despite being vaulted with pointed arches, the narthex is thoroughly Romanesque in conception. Three portals permit access to the nave. The tympanum of the central portal numbers, with Autun and Conques, among the most celebrated tympana of Romanesque art.
