Conques St. Faith - Hell

The frieze of Hell, visible in its entirety in these three segments, begins on the left with the mouth of Hell, as a demon shoves condemned sinners into the jaws of a monstrous beast. Satan, the largest figure on this frieze, rules from the center of his domain. To his right, demons strip a knight and bind an adulterous couple to the stake by their necks (see detail). To his left we see Judas, as well as other rabble being variously boiled or roasted.
