This Christ is less austere, broader of gesture than his counterparts
at Vezelay and Autun. At the same time, he is physically separated from
humanity by the waves of light/clouds of heaven which surround him. Christ
is transfigured here, and seems not to be involved in the drama taking
place at his feet. The weighing of souls is taking place, not next to him,
but on the lower lintel, cramped into a tight space just above the gates
of Heaven and Hell.
Note the traces of polychrome paint on Christ's mantel.
