Multicultural Affairs

Programs

The programs offered by the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs are designed to help students become successful members of the Illinois Wesleyan community and to increase retention rates among minority students.

ALANA Orientation (First Year Students Only)

ALANA  is an acronym used to refer to Illinois Wesleyan's racially underrepresented student population, specifically African-American, Latino - American, Asian- American, and Native American Students. ALANA Orientation is a 3 day event which allows first year ALANA students the opportunity to meet current students, faculty, and staff. The purpose of ALANA Orientation is to provide critical tools and resources to students that will assist them in achieving a successful and productive first year experience.

Freshmen Orientation

Summer Enrichment Program (SEP)

Timber Pointe Retreat

The program is 10 weeks in duration and focuses on three major areas: academic, professional, and personal growth.  As participants of the program, students will have formal training and there will be at least one volunteer project.  These activities will be designed to enhance students’ team building and leadership skills.  In addition, for those who successfully complete the program, a scholarship will be awarded

GUIDE Mentoring Program

The purpose of this program is to assist first year students with their transition to college by creating a supportive and affirming environment. GUIDE is an opportunity to acquaint first year ALANA students with our surrounding community by partnering them with minority professionals in the area.  These relationships are just one of the many layers of support for first year students.
