Notre Dame - kings of Judah

Notre Dame de Paris Rois de Judah

The portals are surmounted by a superb row of figures representing the kings of Judah and of Israel, the ancestors of Christ. Taken for kings of France during the Revolution, they were all decapitated. Though the heads were restored by Viollet-le-Duc, a good number of the originals were found cemented into a wall close to the cathedral in 1977. They are now on display in the National Museum of the Middle Ages (Cluny Museum).
