Le Puy - chapel of St. Michael
This chapel, perched on a pinnacle of rock a kilometer's distance from the cathedral, is dedicated to the archangel Michael, patron of Christian knights. The original structure, visible in the foundations of the present chapel, was built by Godescalc himself and dates from the 10th century. The main building is contemporary with the cathedral. It is no accident that this chapel, set facing Galicia, is dedicated to both the mother of God and to God's "marshal at arms". Interestingly, Godescalc's successor, Guy of Anjou, was one of the architects of the famous "Peace of God", an edit restricting violence against civilians.
