Conques - Basilica of St. Faith
Nestled in the gorges of the Ouche river, in Aveyron, is a captivating historic village which boasts a magnificent Romanesque church as well as a remarkable collection of reliquaries from the Carolingian period. Celebrated since the 9th century for its relics of St. Faith of Agen, an early 4th century martyr whose remains were spirited away from their original shrine in 866 by a monk of Conques, Conques became one of the great pilgrimage sites along the road to Compostella. A recommended stop between Le Puy en Velay and Moissac, it saw a steady flow of pilgrim traffic from the 11th through the 13th centuries.
