Travel Course May 9 - June 3,
2000
Leaders: Christopher Callahan
& Robert Delvin
This course explores the historical and cultural expression of medieval France and England by focusing on the Plantagenets, the most powerful noble house of 12th century France, and rulers of England from 1154 to 1399. As crusaders and statesmen, defenders and critics of the church, poets and patrons of the arts, the Plantagenets did much to shape the events of their age. Readings and lectures survey the political, religious and intellectual climate of the period, while on-site visits examine contemporary cultural artifacts, including architecture and sculpture, stained glass, tapestry, sacred and secular music, poetry and book production.
