Scholarship Opportunities

Below is a partial listing of scholarships available to majors and minors in the Business Administration department.  Please look at this page often as it will be updated with more scholarships when the information becomes available.  If you have any questions regarding these scholarships, please feel free to contact Robert Kearney, Chair of the Department of Business Administration.

Accounting

 
• AAA-CPA Foundation Essay Contest
• Deadline: April
• Student does not need a bachelor’s degree, but s/he must be currently enrolled in a college or university  for a bachelor’s degree with a major or concentration in Accounting.
 
•  AICPA Scholarship
• Deadline: April
• Requirements
• Declared Accounting, Finance or Information Systems major.
• Overall and major GPA of at least 3.0.
• Completed 30 semester hours, six of which must be in Accounting.
• Full-time undergraduate at an accredited college or university in the US.
• An AICPA student affiliate member.

 
• American Society of Women Accountants
• Deadline: February
• Requirements
• Completed at least 60 semester hours or approximately 88 quarter hours of college work before applying.
• Maintained a cumulative "B" average.
• Indicated an intention to pursue an Accounting career.

 
• Illinois CPA Society/Foundation Scholarship Applications
• Deadline: February
• Requirements
• Reside in Illinois.
• Enrolled full-time at an Illinois two- or four-year college/university.
• Completed a minimum of 6 semester or 9 quarter hours of college accounting.

 
• Independent Accountants Association of Illinois
• Deadline: June
• Requirements
• "B" average or better in Accounting subjects.
• Enrolled in an Illinois college or  university.
• Indicated a desire to enter the Accounting profession as an independent practitioner.

 
• Institute of Management Accountants National Scholarship Program

• Requirements
• Carry at least 6 credits per term.
• Must not have won an IMA monetary National Scholarship before.
• IMA Student Member.

 
• National Society of Public Accountants

• Undergraduate students majoring in accounting.

• Association of Certified Fraud Examiners

• Requirements
• Overall academic achievement demonstrated by transcripts.
• Three letters of recommendation by faculty or advisers, including at least one from a Certified Fraud Examiner or local CFE chapter.
• An original 250-word essay on why the applicant deserves the scholarship and how fraud awareness will affect his or her professional career development.

 
• Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies
• Deadline: December
• Requirements
• Exceptional GPA and completion of basic course in insurance and risk.
• Full-time student as undergraduate junior or senior returning to full-time schedule after completion of the programme or full-time graduate student returning to a full-time schedule after completion of programme.
• Fluent English.

• Full-time student who has attained junior, senior, or graduate status by Fall of year prior to application year.
• Student successfully completed a minimum of 3 courses in insurance and/or risk management.
• Nomination by professor.
• Resume, career goals, and reasons for interests in insurance and risk management needed.

• American Economic Association – Summer Training Program
• Deadline: March
• Requirements
• Complete application form.
• Fill out beginning of two letter-of-recommendation forms and have two faculty members forward their recommendation letters along with these forms.
• Send an official college transcript to the same address.

 
• Associated Colleges of Illinois
• Deadline: March
• Requirements
• 3rd or 4th year minority students.
• GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
• Interested in business, accounting, finance, or computer science.

 
• Derek Hughes/NAPSLO Educational Foundation

• Requirements
• Enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate school.
• Majoring in accounting, actuarial science, business, economics, finance, insurance, management, marketing, mathematics, risk management, or statistics.

• J.E. Davis Writing Award -- National Collegiate Writing Contest
• Deadline: March
• Requirements
• No older than 25 on January 31 of year applying.
• Registered graduate or undergraduate student in a U.S college or university.
• Essays must be original and deal directly with the topic chosen by the Center for American Free Enterprise.
• Essay must be accompanied by an entry form signed by a faculty member and a brief biography.
• Essay length must be between 1,500 and 2,500 words.

 
• Institute for Humane Studies
• Deadline: December
• Requirements
• Students who have clearly demonstrated interest in the classical liberal/libertarian tradition of individual rights and market economies, and are studying in the U.S. or abroad.
• Graduate students and undergraduate students who will be juniors or seniors are eligible.
• Awards are based on academic and/or professional performance, relevance of one’s work to the advancement of a free society, and potential for success.

• U.S. Citizen or permanent U.S. resident with Hispanic ethnic parentage.
• Acceptance to a graduate school.
• Participation in community development or service activities.
• Notable academic performance.

 
• North American Collegiate Entrepreneur Awards
• Deadline: April
• Requirements
• Undergraduate students enrolled during year applying.
• Proof of completion of 12 credit hours during year applying.
• Business activities must have been carried on simultaneously with school enrollment.
• Students who graduated in mid-year need only submit proof of 6 credit hours during year applying.

 

• State Farm Companies Foundation Exceptional Student Fellowship
• Deadline: February
• Requirements
• Full-time junior or senior at the time of application.
• Majoring in an area of business.
• Demonstrated significant leadership in extracurricular activities.
• Minimum 3.6 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
• Attending an accredited college or university in the U.S.
