Advantages of being a reviewer

  • The review process enables students to gain a deeper understanding of the various methods used to evaluate economic information.
  • The UER will provide avenues for the reviewer to discuss issues with other panel members.
  • It also helps the student to sharpen his or her own writing and research skills.
  • You will be acknowledged on the website as an editor.
  • You will be part of a strong network of editors at renowned universities across the U.S.
  • Additionally, being a reviewer at such an early stage greatly enhances the student's credentials for employment or graduate school admissions. It takes skill and dedication, something that future employers and graduate school admissions officers will recognize. Working as a reviewer signals that you are proficient in economics and excel at economic analysis! A student's involvement in shaping the UER's journal articles will surely impress employers and graduate school officials.

Role of a reviewer

The significance of a reviewer's role in the development of a first rate journal can not be stressed enough. He or she takes decisions on the main content of the journal, and thereby essentially determines its quality. Thus, the reviewer holds a position of extreme importance!

A reviewer's main responsibilities include:

  • Making recommendations regarding acceptance and revision
  • Providing constructive feedback for authors when appropriate
  • Check for flawed work and prevent its publication
  • Cooperating with fellow reviewers in reaching a decision
  • Ensuring ethical use of the article's content prior to publication
  • Ensuring promptness in the completion of the review
  • Informing the UER editorial board if the review can not be completed by the specified date
