The central portion of the Mary tympanum depicts scenes from the life of the Virgin. In this Nativity scene, Mary rests in her bed after labor, and is watched over by Joseph and three angels, while Jesus, in the manger, is watched over by the ox and the ass. To Joseph's right, we glimpse a shepherd, while to the left, earlier in the narrative, Mary greets Elizabeth.
