The window of the apsidal
chapels are visible through the arcade
of the chevet. As construction normally
proceded from the east end to the ouest end of the building, beginning
with the chevet, this arcade represents an early stage in the development
of the pointed, so-called "gothic"
arch. As builders came to the nave
arcade, advances in technique allowed them to use a much more pointed arch
in the construction of the elevation of the nave.
