The nave elevation is composed of three levels - grand arcade, triforium and clerestory. The massive square pillars of the nave are visually softened by carved pilaster strips. As will be the case with Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, the lateral naves are filled with chapels, inserted between the buttresses.
